Hollow Fangs
Faction Type: Informal civilian auxiliary group (not self-organized)
Alignment/Outlook: Survival-driven, low-status, often resentful
Symbol/Colors: A skull with the incisors missing—a mocking tattoo forced or assigned by wereknights to denote “fangless,” powerless civilians.
Overview
The Hollow Fangs are not a true faction by choice.
They are ordinary non-wereknight civilians in Onadbyr who have been pulled into guard support roles during the city’s instability.
Their identifying mark—a skull missing its fangs—is not a badge of honor or membership.
It is an insulting symbol given or enforced by wereknights to emphasize the civilians’ lack of fangs, strength, and status. Many bear it reluctantly, as a requirement to serve or gain access to food rations and protection.
As a result, the “Hollow Fangs” function less as an organized group and more as a label imposed from above, grouping together those forced into auxiliary duties.
History
Player-known information indicates:
- The mark came from wereknights as a way to designate non-transformed civilians used as backup labor and manpower.
- The name Hollow Fangs reflects their perceived inferiority—a reminder that they lack the wereknights’ monstrous fangs.
- Civilians placed in this role receive limited support and minimal authority.
The group has no known leadership, hierarchy, or ideological unity.
Goals & Motivations
(All based on civilian motivations known to the party)
- Keep their families fed, especially during shortages.
- Avoid punishment or neglect from the wereknight-controlled guard.
- Maintain basic safety and stability with the little authority they’ve been given.
- Perform their duties well enough to avoid being singled out, mocked, or demoted.
The civilians show uneven moral alignment, but none appear fanatical or malicious.
Notable Figures
- None formally known.
All encountered individuals have been low-ranking civilians pressed into guard work.
Relationships
-
Allies:
- City Guard / Wereknights — but only in the sense that they are subordinate auxiliaries, not true partners.
-
Rivals/Enemies:
- Anyone who threatens city order, or those the wereknights label as “traitors.”
-
Party Connection:
- In Session 13, a Hollow Fangs-marked guard was found upstairs in the Lucky Leap.
- He expressed fear of repercussions if he spoke freely—not fear of assassination, but fear of losing protection, rations, or safety for his family.
- His tattoo was a visible reminder of his low status.
Notable Moments
Session 13
- A guard with the Hollow Fangs tattoo reveals its meaning indirectly through fear and reluctance to speak.
- He admits he is a conscripted civilian, part of a group mocked and kept at the bottom of the guard hierarchy.
- The party sees firsthand that these “Fangs” are not enemies, but pressured locals caught between survival and coercion.
